PHMS Teachers Awarded Grant for Aquaponics

A $5,000 grant from the NJEA Hipp Foundation was awarded to Mandy Natalie, Christina Dooling, Renee Gilson, Katie Bojanowski and Denise Vuono of Pine Hill Middle School.  The purpose of their project is to provoke student interest in the food shortage epidemic.  Throughout the course of the year, students will learn about alternative farming methods, and experiment with one of these methods, aquaponics, as they create a self-sustaining garden for their school and community. Students will extend their understanding by considering the viability of aquaponics as a potential remedy to the world’s food shortage crisis.
